You can change the world. Can you though? Can you be so bold and brave enough to think that you can change the world?
During my workout today, my trainer and I had a conversation about setting goals and New Year’s resolutions. In all honesty, I haven’t done either yet. I used to go through this exhaustive process of outlining my goals for the year. I’d set goals for my finances, relationships, spiritual growth, business, etc. I’m not knocking doing any of it. There’s a lot of value and benefit in setting your intentions for the upcoming year. But here’s what I found; I’d get so overwhelmed with trying to achieve all the things! I’d beat myself up if I didn’t meet my financial goal. If I lost my way on my spiritual journey, I’d abandon the entire thing. If I got off track with my eating then I’d say what’s the use? I don’t think I’m the only person who has gone through this.
Today, I had a moment where I realized, it’s not about the BIG HAIRY AUDACIOUS GOAL… it’s about the small, mundane, boring, repetitious, consistent things you do every day. And I mean every day. It’s not sexy, it’s not cute, but it’s effective and it produces results. Slow and steady also gets you to the finish line.
Oftentimes, we think “Go Big or Go Home.” How about just being consistent? How about setting one goal, breaking it down into small achievable parts and taking one step every day towards it? How about not making excuses as to why you can’t and figure out how you can?
Maybe changing the world is too big for you. So, choose instead to focus on changing yourself one step, one moment, one day at a time.
Even if you can’t change the world, you can make a choice to change yourself. Invariably, as you evolve the people around you will also. I believe that’s the biggest impact you can have in the world.
Happy New Year friends! See you in 2023!!
