You Bring About What You Speak About

This is something that I have been saying for years. I’m sure I’ve mentioned it here a few times in my blogs. Have you ever been around a person who is constantly saying that they don’t have money? Or that they are always unlucky? Sure enough, if you start to analyze their lives, they have spoken into existence the things they have said. Our words have power. It’s so important to be intentional with the words that you use. Whether negative or positive, the thing we say can and will happen.

A few years ago, I started to realize the power of my words. I used to always profess that I was shy, and that I wasn’t good at doing certain things. The negative things I had been saying about myself were being fulfilled. I made a conscious decision to change the words I used in reference to myself. I actively started to pay attention to my words. I stopped saying I was shy or that I didn’t matter.  I distinctly recall saying that I wanted to be a paid speaker. Within a few months, I was asked to speak at a staff retreat. After I deposited the check, I framed it! It was the beginning of a huge change for me.

I’m not saying that everything I’ve said has come to fruition. Some things have happened faster than others.  However, I have a simple spreadsheet where I track some of the things I have said that I want to accomplish. I’m quite shocked even now when I reflect on it and see what I’ve accomplished! Reflecting is fuel to make the other things a reality.

A few months ago, I was approached by the Publisher/CEO of RGV Vision. It’s a local publication that highlights successful individuals in my area. When I got his notification in my LinkedIn InMail, I was somewhat surprised. I had been reading his publication for a few years.  I recall saying to myself, “one day there will be an article published about me.” Little did I know what I was putting out into the world. We met in person and he decided that he wanted to feature our business. A photoshoot and an interview later…voila! We’re honored to be featured in a publication with some movers & shakers in the RGV. RGVision Media is circulated at over 420 locations valley wide & reaches 10K readers.

Speaking into reality the things you want to happen takes belief, intention and action. It’s more than just saying the things that you want. You must also take action in working towards it. Look for situations that are in alignment with your purpose. Surround yourself with people who see your magic and expertise. Be deliberate and attentive.

How do you track the positive things that you’ve spoken into existence? Do you journal? Have a spreadsheet or some other kind of tool? Share your comments below.
