Nowhere to go. Nothing to do. No one is calling me.
These were the 3 sentences I heard in my meditation on Monday. It was the day I reset…for the umpteenth time! I have no shame in admitting that I haven’t been working out like I regularly do. I haven’t been doing all the things I needed to do to feel the way I like to feel. I got off track. I traveled for 2 weeks back-to-back in November. When I got back home, I was a little under the weather, then Thanksgiving hit. I had a project that I’ve been working on that has been taking up a lot of time. Invariably, I took the hit. I stopped focusing on my self care.
It’s hard some days.
Even as my alarm went off on Monday morning, I struggled. But something inside of me said “Just do it…NOW!” Perhaps it was Mel Robbins’ 5 second rule that jolted me out of bed. I stumbled around in my sleepiness, found my workout clothes and walked to my elliptical. Within 2 minutes, I was so glad I got up! The meditation that I found that day cemented what I needed to hear. Nowhere to go, nothing to do, no one calling me.
You see, it’s so easy to put everything and everyone else ahead of you. We convince ourselves that everything outside of our physical bodies is more important than ourselves. We commit to committees we shouldn’t be on; we volunteer at activities we don’t have time for and we continue to say yes to things we should be saying no to. The cycle continues until we find ourselves feeling depleted, overwhelmed and anxious.
When we choose to say YES to ourselves first, the energy that is released is immeasurable. On Monday, I made the decision to focus on what I needed. I felt rejuvenated, I felt connected to myself, I felt alive! Those few minutes of not needing to be anywhere, do anything or respond to anyone made the world of difference for me. In all honesty, since I devoted time to myself, my creative juices started to flow.
What is it that you need to do for you? What is more important to you than to take some time to reset? What can you move off your calendar or what can be reassigned to someone else? Create the space that you need to be all in with yourself. Fully focused on YOU. It doesn’t have to be an elaborate process. It can be as simple as locking your office door, turning off your phone and sitting still for 5-10 minutes. Or perhaps drive to a parking lot and just sit. Get away from all the things that are stealing your attention and time. Take a moment to be present with yourself. Take the time to BREATHE. Feel the air move in through your nose and exhale deeply. Try it now.
Nowhere to go. Nothing to do. No one is calling me.
Simple, but game changing. If you’d like to hear the meditation check it out here.
